Whitehorse explored
Friday, I climbed the glacial till that extends the length of the road to Debbie's suburb. It's that hill on the right in this picture taken through my bedroom window at Debbie's. It's a pretty decent climb and provides a very fine view of Whitehorse, with many trails on which to meander.
In point of fact, I was somewhat reluctant to delve very far from the main route that circumnavigates the suburb grown so naturally within the geological bowl formation, for fear of becoming lost.
Saw a bit of wildlife, of course, there were a couple of black billed magpies flying about and trying to lead me into the woods. And an Arctic Ground Squirrel (commonly referred to as prairie dogs because they look exactly the same) came out to say hi. Their burrows are everywhere!
I had to do a little shopping for lighter weight clothes, as it just keeps getting warmer and warmer here. I expect the mosquitoes should be out in full force by the time I leave, but keeping fingers crossed to not. Did I mention that the Canadian Tire here is the largest in Canada? Plus it has this awesome northern themed mural at the entrance. And the smoked salmon quiche at "Baked" was unbelievably delicious.
Later, it was backyard barbecue time at Vanessa's for supper, and we didn't get out to Miles Canyon as planned (we did get the bear spray so are now prepared to do so) but who cares! There was beer and barbecue and I played volleyball and badminton with young Joseph. Unfortunately I forgot to take more pictures, or have any taken of me being so very active (no, seriously, I forgot....), but I did catch Bob in the act.
