""Not eaten by a bear"

Today we travelled from Whitehorse, Yukon, through BC to Alaska reaching a height of 3292 ft. above sea level on the South Klondike Highway.

The mountains are simply indescribable, one runs out of ways to say awesome.

The green lake is truly that colour. It's called Emerald Lake for obvious reasons.

This Alaskan welcome sign is so high I was getting a little light headed, to say the least. As we stepped from the van an eagle cried out, but I couldn't see him anywhere. I had trouble seeing anything in the vast expanses that simply kept growing. Pictures can never do the mountains justice, yet I will post more pics once I go through them tomorrow morning.

We saw 5 black bears, 1 prairie dog, 1 marmot, around a dozen Mountain Goats and 4 porcupines.

The first bears we saw were a mother and her 2 cubs and the tourists were out of their cars near the Carcross desert, taking pictures . Not really such a good idea! The fourth bear is the one we have a pretty good picture of. It was munching along the ditch on the far side of the road. Debbie got the best pictures and we were surprised to see a white marking on its chest. Very unusual according to the old timers around here.

The fifth bear was in the middle of the road, near where we saw the fourth one, on our way back from Skagway. He just ran across the road some distance in front of us.

Skagway was full of cruise people and bus tour people. It was crazy busy, and I will post more pics tomorrow of mountains and Skagway, and stuff.
