ARRIVED, SAFE AND SOUND

MAY 13, Thursday am, very early.

Ha ha ha! It's 11 am in N.S. and I'm wide awake though it's barely 6 am here and seems like it's been light all night. I believe it may have been dark at 3 am when I 'thought' it was time to rise and had to go to the bathroom.

The flight out was fabulous! Very little turbulence, worst was at takeoff from Edmonton, and that was just a little shaking until we reached cruising height.

Slight layover in Edmonton... arrived at 12:30 (few mins. late -- Keith and Ruby met Barb and whisked her off to Calgary after I got my boarding pass for Air North) and flew out to Whitehorse at 3:40, but managed to amuse my self by looking for best coffee place, and going through security. No one questioned the metal N.S. license plates (though I kind of thought they could have construed as weapons.) Nor did they wonder about the coils of Camerons oatmeal pudding I had packed in my carry on.

TOTALLY LOVED THE FLYING! Barb wanted aisle seats for chatting and easy access to bathrooms, so we sat across from each other on Westjet, but I regretted having to strain to see out the windows on approach and takeoff . However, I totally lucked out with Air North standby seat as you can tell by the pictures, right over the wing (gaining perspective and everything).

Debbie took me for the grand tour of the city. It is indeed a city, though only 25,000, which is similar to the total population of the towns of Pictou County. and exists on a very flat plain in the bowl of the mountains. As we descended, the fabulous clouds gave way to occasional glimpses of the mountains, and I was delighted when I realized that the approach to the airport included a fly past of the city first.

Bambi (Debbie's extremely tiny, 2 lb. canine) and I made fast friends. She is the friendliest little 'hooey' I ever met and was very delighted to meet me. Amanda calls her a gerbil, but her heritage is actually chihauhua/Yorkie. Weighs about 2 pounds.

I'm thinking to visit downtown today, find myself a can of bear spray and hopefully the sunglasses I left in the diner last night. We discussed itinerary well into the wee hours of the morning (for me) tho it was only 10:30 when we went to bed. There's hot springs, mountain goats, buffalo, grizzly bears and much mountainous, sheer wilderness in my future. Apparently there are several beautiful, natural hot springs in the woods somewhere that the grizzlies wander, and they have to shut certain ones down quite frequently. Bob and Debbie have only visited the 'lower' portion of these springs because the 'upper' ones are so often closed due to "griz'' sitings. Sounds like my kind of place!
